Justis Tan Chin Aik began his dance journey at the age of 21 while he was pursuing a degree in Computing at the National University of Singapore. Under the mentorship of local hip hop maestro Patrick Loo, he participated in his first dance competition, Suntec Dance 2002, a year later and achieved 1st Runner Up in the group category. He proceeded to join 9 other dance competitions between 2002 and 2007, in either group or solo category, and achieved 3 champion placings and 6 1st Runner Up placings in them. Though primarily trained in hip hop and street dance disciplines, Justis received significant exposure to other genres such as ballet and jazz in 2004 and 2005 through the Jitterbugs Scholarship. From 2010 onwards, he has emphasized his personal development in the areas of popping and house while continuing to expand his hip hop repertoire. His heaviest influences to date come from Daniel Yeow (Singapore), Gucchon (Japan), Poppin J (South Korea), Marty Kudelka (USA) and D’OAM Crew (Japan). Whilst Justis strives to improve in all three aspects of his dance career, namely as a performer, as a choreographer and as an instructor, he hopes to keep breaking boundaries and also help the Singapore dance scene to reach new heights as a young and vibrant community. Eventually, he aims to be a bridge which connects people from all over the world through the love and appreciation of dance. His belief is that dance is a gift from God and is meant to be shared and savoured by everyone.
